This paper is a cross-linguistic corpus-assisted discourse study of the representation of migrants in the Italian and UK press and it adopts a two-stage methodological approach. In the first phase, the number of references to nationalities which collocate with refugees, asylum seekers, immigrants, migrants (and Italian equivalents) are calculated and this information is subsequently used to identify any 'mismatch' between the amount of attention that migrants from a given country receive in the media and the official population estimates. In the second, and most extensive stage, the representations of the foregrounded nationalities are analysed through the moral panic framework. Results show an extensive negative representation of some groups, but there is no evidence of a fully iterated moral panic relating to any of the nationalities investigated.

The linkage between race and migration, especially in the UK since the 1990s, has shifted from a focus on postcolonial migrants to focus on newer groups, while migration within the European Union has also altered the discussion of racism and migration. This critical review provides a framework for understanding how race is conceptualized (or ignored) in contemporary scholarship on migration. We identify three, partly overlapping nexi between migration and racialization: (1) 'Changing Migrations -Continuities of Racism'; (2) 'Complex Migrations -Differentialist Racialization'; (3) 'Post-racial Migrations -Beyond Racism'. The article analyses what each of these nexi bring into focus as well as what they neglect. The concept of race-migration nexus aids a fuller understanding of how migration and contemporary racialization are co-constructed. Scholars need to consider the relationship between migration and race to better address pressing issues of racism against migrants and settled communities.

Con el objetivo visibilizar a las víctimas gitanas del holocausto, el presente artículo recapitula, a través de la revisión de la literatura científica, los hechos históricos que evidencian el Porrajmos: la "devoración" del pueblo romaní a manos del régimen Nazi. Para ello, este artículo reflexiona sobre el anti-gitanismo en la actualidad y analiza las persecuciones que ha sufrido el pueblo Gitano antes de la guerra como elemento que preparó el camino hacía el Porrajmos. En este sentido, se constata que el Holocausto no hubiera sido viable sin la colaboración de toda la sociedad Europea. Igualmente, analizamos las aportaciones de las Ciencias Sociales que están contribuyendo a la superación del racismo, como herramientas de cambio para que el Porrajmos no vuelva a repetirse.
