The lack of use of learning media, especially in thematic learning, causes students to experience difficulties in learning. The need for learning media development in thematic learning to facilitate students in learning. This study aims to develop Pop-Up Book media and find the location and practicality of Pop-Up Book learning media based on integrative thematic learning on Theme 8 Safety at Home and Travel. This type of research is development. The research method used is the ADDIE model. This study consisted of expert validators of learning media, content expert validators, class teachers, and students. The data collection instruments used in this study were questionnaires and expert judgment. The data used in this study is a feasibility analysis and practicality analysis. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative and quantitative analysis. The study results indicate that this learning media has gone through systematic stages of development research. Based on the validation of material experts, media experts, practitioners, and students, the Pop-Up Book's quality was very good. The Pop-Up Book learning media development is feasible, practical, and attractive to be used as a learning medium in Class 2 thematic learning. The Pop-Up Book media can facilitate students in learning so that it impacts increasing student learning outcomes.

Origami architecture (OA) is a fascinating papercraft that involves only a piece of paper with cuts and folds. Interesting geometric structures 'pop up' when the paper is opened. However, manually designing such a physically valid 2D paper pop-up plan is challenging since fold lines must jointly satisfy hard spatial constraints. Existing works on automatic OA-style paper pop-up design all focused on how to generate a pop-up structure that approximates a given target 3D model. This paper presents the first OA-style paper pop-up design framework that takes 2D images instead of 3D models as input. Our work is inspired by the fact that artists often use 2D profiles to guide the design process, thus benefited from the high availability of 2D image resources. Due to the lack of 3D geometry information, we perform novel theoretic analysis to ensure the foldability and stability of the resultant design. Based on a novel graph representation of the paper pop-up plan, we further propose a practical optimization algorithm via mixed-integer programming that jointly optimizes the topology and geometry of the 2D plan. We also allow the user to interactively explore the design space by specifying constraints on fold lines. Finally, we evaluate our framework on various images with interesting 2D shapes. Experiments and comparisons exhibit both the efficacy and efficiency of our framework.

In this paper, we present a new workflow for the computer‐aided generation of physicalizations, addressing Nested configurations in anatomical and biological structures. Physicalizations are an important component of anatomical and biological education and edutainment. However, existing approaches have mainly revolved around creating data sculptures through digital fabrication. Only a few recent works proposed computer‐aided pipelines for generating sculptures, such as papercrafts, with affordable and readily available materials. Papercraft generation remains a Challenging topic by itself. Yet, anatomical and biological applications pose additional Challenges, such as reconstruction complexity and insufficiency to account for multiple, Nested structures—often present in anatomical and biological structures. Our workflow comprises the following steps: (i) define the Nested configuration of the model and detect its levels, (ii) calculate the viewpoint that provides optimal, unobstructed views on inner levels, (iii) perform cuts on the outer levels to reveal the inner ones based on the viewpoint selection, (iv) estimate the stability of the cut papercraft to ensure a reliable outcome, (v) generate textures at each level, as a smart visibility mechanism that provides additional information on the inner structures, and (vi) unfold each textured mesh guaranteeing reconstruction. Our novel approach exploits the interactivity of Nested papercraft models for edutainment purposes.
