The introduction of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) within search and rescue missions provides human operators with ‘eyes in the sky’. However, little attention has previously been paid to the implications of this type of technology on the decision-making procedures of search and rescue teams; in particular, the human operator responsible for extracting and analysing UAV sensor data in order to achieve the mission objective, typically to locate missing people.Within the field of Human Factors, theoretical decision models have been used to identify user requirements for interfaces, training protocols, workstation layouts, and decision aids. We propose that decision models can be applied to the study of Human-Robot Interaction. Thus, the current paper presents a literature review of decision models used within Human Factors. The provision of a UAV within a Search and Rescue operation is used to case study the utility of these decision models for capturing the aspects of decision-making exercised by the sensor operator.

Due to the relative maturity of data flow(DF) analysis and research technology as well as the increasing number and development of diagnostic instruments, the automotive engine fault detection and diagnosis system is developing in the direction of precision, intelligence and multi-module diagnosis. In this paper, the fault detection system is designed for the problem of insufficient power of automobile engine. The ECU of automobile engine has the function of collecting the engine DF under various conditions in real time, and then reading out the relevant data during the driving process with the automobile fault diagnostic instrument, and the maintenance personnel combine them according to different requirements to form different data sets. The fault detection system also has the function of fault identification and prediction, and the best result of PSO-ELM algorithm is found by comparing the prediction accuracy of different algorithms. Here, it is hoped that the research in this paper will provide a reliable basis for analyzing and researching automotive engine faults.

In 2009, Colgan Air Flight 3407 had a fatal crash in New York due to an aircraft aerodynamic stall. Previous reports had placed the actions of the crew as the cause of the incident; however, this work provides a sociotechnical systems analysis of the events that led up to the fatal accident. An Accimap analysis provides a top‐down systemic analysis of Flight 3407, considering the high‐level governmental and regulatory agencies involvement. An online survey with 47 airline pilots provides a bottom‐up review of pilots’ perceptions and decision‐making in response to aerodynamic stall events. Combining the two approaches generates a holistic approach to managing aerodynamic stall events. Analysis of Flight 3407 identified contributory factors within the higher regulatory and company levels. Furthermore, questions of appropriate training were raised by the pilots within the survey results regarding the immediate response to a stall event which commonly affords a startle and/or surprise response. The impact of “startle and surprise” on the pilots’ response to this situation was identified as a key area to focus on, with design and training recommendations provided. We consider these within the context of recent training recommendations in the industry.
