Generation and Validation of High‐Resolution DEMs from Worldview‐2 Stereo Data

Abstract: WorldView-2 (WV-2), whose panchromatic images have a 0Á5 m ground sampling distance (GSD), was launched by DigitalGlobe in 2009. It is the first commercial satellite to offer 8-band multispectral imagery with 1Á8 m resolution. Due to the offnadir sensor rotation of WV-2, it is feasible to obtain stereo coverage. Digital elevation models (DEMs) have been created with three WV-2 stereopairs of northern Istanbul with different land types and one of these is comprehensively analysed in this study. A reference DEM,… Show more

“…Yapılan birçok çalışmada LiDAR verilerinden üretilen yüzey modelleri ile stereo optik görüntülerden fotogrametrik yöntemlerle üretilen yüzey modellerinin doğruluğu karşılaştırılmıştır (Hobi & Ginzler, 2012;F. Hu, Gao, Li, & Li, 2016;Oh & Lee, 2016;Poli, Remondino, Angiuli, & Agugiaro, 2015;Poli & Soille, 2012;Sefercik, Alkan, Buyuksalih, & Jacobsen, 2013;Toutin, Schmitt, Wang, & Reinartz, 2012). LiDAR verileri ile üretilen yüzey modelleri, LiDAR sisteminin yapısal özelikleri (çoklu dönüş) nedeniyle, özellikle yoğun ormanlık alanlarda arazi üzerindeki detay noktalarının tespitinde daha iyi sonuçlar vermektedir.…”

“…The image processing method utilized WorldView-2's advantages, high resolution and abundant spectral information, to maximize the information extracted from the remote sensing images [26,27]. Within a study area, it is usually easy to distinguish evergreen species and deciduous species from images obtained in fall or winter seasons [28,29].…”
