“…This reduces the data load by many orders of magnitude and allows a practical implementation of a real time, high resolution hologram. SeeReal [6,7] and others have demonstrated this technology by fabricating and demonstrating experimental holographic video displays.…”

“…The current state-of-the-art SLMs -liquid crystal, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) [11] and bulk-wave acousto-optic modulators [12]-have relatively low bandwidth, low diffraction angle, poor scalability, presence of quantization noise, unwanted diffractive orders, zero-order light, and high cost. Much of the cost and complexity of the current holographic displays is due to the need for compensating for these deficiencies by, for example, adding eye tracking to deal with low diffraction angle [6,7], duplicating and phase shifting the optical path to eliminate the zero order [13], or creating tiled arrays of spatial light modulators to increase the display size [9]. The SLM based on the anisotropic leaky-mode couplers developed by the MIT team has the potential to address these challenges.…”

“…In 2010, Zschau et al [6] introduced SeeReal's Sub-Hologramtechnology where almost all calculations were done on GPU based on Microsoft Direct3D 9. In the same year Shimobaba et al [7] compared AMD and NVIDIA GPUs in CGH generation, and the generation method was the same as in reference [3].…”
