Generation of perfect vectorial vortex beams

Abstract: We propose the concept of perfect vectorial vortex beams (VVBs), which not merely have intensity profile independent of the polarization order and the topological charge of spiral phase, but also have stable intensity profile and state of polarization (SoP) upon propagation. Utilizing a Sagnac interferometer, we approximately generate perfect VVBs with locally linear and elliptical polarizations, and demonstrate that such beams can keep their intensity profile and SoP at a certain propagation distance. These p… Show more

“…According to the above analysis, next step is to verify its correctness in the experiment. The VBs can be generated by use of many methods, like interferometric superposition method [33][34][35] and polarization transformation elements [36,37]. In our experiment, the Q-plate (m=1) is used to generate VBs.…”

“…The thickness of the light ring generated by the vortex axicon is approximately twice larger compared to that of the other two rings. Thus, the optimal filter (3), studied for the first time in [3], is the best candidate for generation of a perfect optical vortex.…”

“…In both works, the POV is generated approximately and its quality turned out to be low. In [3], a narrow ring is imaged by using a 4f-setup, but this way does not allow generation of a POV in the focus of a high-aperture objective for optical manipulation. In [4], instead of the axicon, an amplitude-phase optical element approximating the Bessel mode is proposed.…”

“…To be specific, when the composited VVBs propagate, the state of polarization becomes unstable [13] and the intensity profile collapses, [14] which inevitably limits the co-propagation of multiple VVBs in optical system. By combining the generation methods of PVB with the Sagnac interferometer, perfect vector vortex beams (PVVBs) are also demonstrated, [18] which is able to possess stable state of polarization and intensity profiles upon propagation. Plenty of methods to obtain the PVB have been proposed, such as using spatial light modulator, [15,16] axicon, [17] etc.…”
