“…Among its many applications it can be mentioned that the Py-GC/MS has proven to be a very sensitive technique for identification and discrimination of paintings [13][14] and traces of vehicle tyres [15]. But it is not exclusive to art of forensic science, since it is widely used in the study and characterisation of all types of materials including polymers [16][17], various biomasses [18][19], food products [20][21][22] or algae [23], among others.…”

“…Efforts have been made to select for cultivars with various morphological traits or higher alkaloid contents [17]. Previous studies have characterized and differentiated the cultivars using approaches such as amplified fragment length polymorphisms (AFLP), random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) [21], and chemotaxonomy [22]. However, since there are now over 100 cultivars of C .…”

“…PyMS has been widely applied to the discrimination of closely related microbial strains (Timmins et al 1998). Recently, PyMS is also used for the discrimination of plant calluses based on embryogenic capacity (Kim et al 2007) and taxonomic classification of higher plants (Kim et al 2004(Kim et al , 2007 and genetic discrimination of Catharanthus roseus cultivars (Kim et al 2009) as well.…”
