Genetic diversity and population structure of the primary malaria vector Anopheles sinensis (Diptera: Culicidae) in China inferred by cox1 gene

Abstract: Background Anopheles sinensis is a primary vector for Plasmodium vivax malaria in most regions of China. A comprehensive understanding of genetic variation and structure of the mosquito would be of benefit to the vector control and in a further attempt to contribute to malaria elimination in China. However, there is only inadequate population genetic data pertaining to An. sinensis currently.MethodsGenetic variations and structure among populations of An. sinensis was examined and analyzed based on the nucleot… Show more

“…The genetic structure of An. sinensis populations in China were also detected by molecular markers, and the weak genetic structure may be a consequence of low genetic differentiation and high gene flow among populations in central China [ 7 10 ]. However, there are still some issues to be elucidated in the molecular classification of An.…”

“…Different An. sinensis populations in China exhibit variability in morphology, chromosomes, ecology, vector capacity, mitochondrial DNA, and even entire genomic DNA composition ( Feng et al, 2017 ). Understanding the molecular and genetic mechanisms that determine variability in transmission efficiency and mosquito susceptibility could aid in the development of novel vector control strategies.…”

“…Anopheles sinensis is one of the most important disease vectors in China. It is considered as the primary vector of P. vivax malaria due to its wide distribution and high density in central China where several malaria outbreaks occurred in history [ 1 , 2 ]. Like many mosquitoes, An.…”
