Genetic diversity in speckled bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) genotypes in Ethiopia

Abstract: In the present investigation, the genetic variability of 64 speckled type common bean genotypes were evaluated at Haramaya University during 2015 cropping season using 8 × 8 simple lattice design with three replications. The analysis of variance indicated highly significant (P<0.01) differences among genotypes for all the nine characters studied. High genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) was observed for grain yield, while high phenotypic coefficients of variation (PCV) were recorded for number of seeds pl… Show more

“…Plant height negatively correlated with harvest index (rp −0.1699 * ) and pods per plant (rg −0.247 * ) at phenotypic level, whereas it had a negative association with harvest index (rg −0.258 * * ) at genotypic level. Tis result concurred with those reported in previous studies, in which plant height correlated with the number of pods per plant and harvest index [28,38,42,43]. Te number of pods per plant was positively and signifcantly associated with the number of seeds per plant (rp 0.637 * * ), pod width (rp 0.1948 * * ), and hundred seed weight (rp −0.283 * * ) at genotypic level.…”
