Genetic relationship between yield and battering quality in blackgram (Vigna Mungo L.)

Abstract: An experiment was carried out to study the genetic divergence of 39 genotypes of blackgram. Biochemical parameters such crude protein, albumin and globulin content and yield attributing traits such as hundred seed weight and single plant yield were estimated. Grouping of genotypes into various clusters was done by Mahalnobis D 2 statistics. The 39 genotypes were grouped into five clusters. Among the five clusters, cluster V had more number of genotypes. The highest value of intra cluster distance was recorded … Show more

“…Analysis of variance of the seed quality characters viz., albumin content, globulin content, total soluble protein, arabinose content, hundred seed weight and single plant yield indicated the existence of considerable differences among the mutant lines for those characters (Table 2). This result was supported by the findings of Veni et al, 2016. Albumin protein fraction content varied from 6.08 to 8.94 per cent and the mutant line ACM-014-007 recorded the maximum albumin content followed by ACM-014-019 and ACM-014-021. Globulin protein fraction of the mutant lines ranged from 9.81 to 16.39 per cent and the mutant line ACM-014-021 recorded the maximum globulin content followed by ACM-015-024 and ACM -014-019.…”

“…Mungbean ( Vigna radiata ) and urdbean ( Vigna mungo ), also known as green gram and black gram, respectively, are important leguminous crops in South Asia and other parts of the world. Worldwide, the total area under mungbean and urdbean cultivation is about 6 and 4 million ha, with total production of 3 and 2 million tonnes, respectively (Das et al, 2020; Veni et al, 2016). Both mungbean and urdbean are a rich source of key essential nutrients and dietary protein (AVRDC, 2012; Veni et al, 2016).…”
