Genetic Variability, Character Association and Path Analysis for Yield and its Related Traits in Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Genotypes

Abstract: Assessment of variability and trait associations in a crop helps to enhance selection efficiency. With this objective, a study was conducted to estimate the genetic variability, character association and path coefficient analysis for grain yield and its component traits in 80 rice genotypes during Kharif-2020. Eighty genotypes including eight checks were evaluated in alpha lattice design with three replications. For all of the traits studied, the results revealed significant variance in all genotypes.PCV was f… Show more

“…Other traits like biological yield per plant, plant height, and harvest index showing moderate PCV and GCV values indicated a combination of genetic and environmental influences. These findings under study are in conformity with earlier reports in the rice [42,43].…”

“…The estimated heritability helps the plant breeder select elite genotypes from diverse genetic populations. Hence, prior knowledge about the heritability of traits is a prerequisite for the selection program (Singh et al, 2011). Broad-sense heritability explains both fixable (additive) and non-fixable (dominant and epistatic) variances, which helps estimate the inheritance of a character (Nirmaladevi et al, 2015).…”
