The significant positive correlation among phenotypic and genotypic performance, as well as path correlation of crops, contributes to the selection of superior cultivars. Based on the essential relevance of these estimations, it was used in our research. The current research was carried out during autumn winter season 2021-2022 with the aim of to estimate correlation coefficient among the growth and yield attribute and to elucidate the direct and indirect effects of different traits on yield through path coefficient analysis. The experimental material for the study consisted of 40 genotypes including one check (KS-224), laid in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Observations were recorded on twelve quantitative characters. The most important trait, total fruit yield per plant had exhibited highly significant and positive phenotypic correlation with average fruit weight (0.662), number of fruits per plant (0.476), fruit circumference (0.394) and fruit polar length (0.392). Average fruit weight, number of fruits per plant, fruit circumference and fruit polar length were found significantly and positively correlated among themselves. The genotypic direct and indirect effects of most of the traits were similar in nature and higher in magnitude than the phenotypic direct and indirect effect. The higher magnitude of positive direct effect on total fruit yield was exerted by average fruit weight (0.793), number of fruits per plant (0.684) and fruit circumference (0.046). While, negative direct effect on total fruit yield per plant was exerted by days to 50 per cent flowering (-0.093), calyx length (-0.052) and pedicel length (-0.022). Thus, it can be inferred from the data above that selecting for these qualities will effectively enhance the crop for increased production and contributing traits.

This study evaluated 74 genotypes (14 lines, 4 testers, and 56 F1 hybrids with two checks) at the Vegetable Research Farm, Sunrise University, Alwar, Rajasthan, over the summer seasons of 2022 and 2023 using a randomized block design with three replications. Traits observed included days to 50% flowering, days to first fruit harvest, plant height, primary branches per plant, pedicel length, fruits per cluster, average fruit weight, fruits per plant, total phenol content, dry matter content, reducing and non-reducing sugars, total sugars, TSS, ascorbic acid, total fruit yield plant-1, and yield hectare-1. Phenotypic path coefficient analysis showed highly positive direct effects on total fruit yield plant-1 (0.3723), number of fruits plant-1 (0.2300), average fruit weight (0.2204), and plant height (0.1734). Indirect effects were notably contributed by primary branches plant-1 (0.2892) and reducing sugar (0.2536). Pooled genotypic path coefficient analysis revealed the highest positive direct effects from total fruit yield plant-1 (0.7791), total sugar (0.3543), and plant height (0.2132). Significant indirect effects were from reducing sugar (0.4582) and primary branches plant-1 (0.3155).

The genotypes of brinjal were assessed for genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance of growth and yield characters. The present investigation was carried out during rabi season of 2021 in randomized block design with three replications. The analysis of variance revealed significant variation for all the traits among the genotypes. High genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variation was observed for the traits such as fruit weight (99.24 % and 99.27 %), number of fruits per plant (57.33 % and 57.58 %), fruit size index (54.80 % and 54.83 %), fruit length (36.54 % and 36.82 %), fruit circumference (32.16 % and 32.46 %) and fruit yield per hectare (27.26 % and 27.42 %) indicating the existence of wider variability among the genotypes for different characters. High heritability in broad sense along with high genetic advance as percent of mean was found in suggesting that these traits can be improved through direct selection due to the existence of additive gene action.
