Genetic variance and heritability estimation of hybridized pepper plants (Capsicum annuum L.) F2 progeny for begomovirus resistance in growth stage

Abstract: Pepper is widely cultivated as a condiment and cash crop in Indonesia. However, Pepper yellow leaf curl disease (PepYLCD) caused by begomovirus is currently seriously affect the domestic pepper production. Breeding for begomovirus resistance material by crossing is currently necessary to overcome the constraint. The present study is aimed to determine the resistance of pepper (C. annuum) plants F2 progenies to begomovirus infection in the growth stage. Two local C. annuum accessions, BaPep-5 as a resistance do… Show more

“…The height criteria are indicated by the estimated broad-sense heritability values for vegetative characters such as stem diameter, plant height, and crown width. The same results were reported for stem diameter [11], plant height [12], and crown width [13].…”

“…The phenotypic, genotypic and environmental variances and coefficient of variation were calculated according to the formula described by [ 61 ] and cited by [ 18 ], as follows: Environmental variance (δ 2 e) = MSE Phenotypic variance (δ 2 p) = δ 2 g + δ 2 e where MSG is the mean square due to genotype; MSE is the mean square of error (environmental variance); and (r) is the number of replications. where…”

“…Genetic parameters such as phenotypic and genotypic coefficients are used to measure the variation among different genotypes [ 17 ]. The phenotypic display of a plant is bound to the genetic value, environment, and interaction of both factors [ 18 ]. Heritability measures the impact of the genetic makeup on the expression of a desired attribute [ 17 ].…”
