Geometry Reduction in Room Acoustics Modeling

Abstract: The complexity of aroom model affects to the computational resources required to model its acoustics by means of geometrical acoustics modeling methods. Thus, am ethod for reducing the geometry of the room models is presented for static room geometries. The topology of the model is simplified in aprocess where the model is first decomposed into avolumetric structure. The surface is reconstructed by utilizing this structure, and subsequently simplified by merging coplanar regions. The results of the method are … Show more

“…This geometrical consideration must be given not only in the design of the building floor plan but also in the design of the section as well. Also, in the prediction of acoustical simulation, the dimensional ratios of the room length to its width as well as the ratios of the room height to width are important considerations in the design [14][15][16]. At present, church geometric configurations vary from classical rectangular shaped to the octagonalshaped plan.…”

“…For example, in ray-tracing methods or beam-tracing method only a finite number of rays are considered to be emitted by every image sound source [15,30]. In real-time auralization, especially in dynamic environments, the approximation in geometric accuracy [27] and late reverberation [2] are used. The similar approximations are involved in non-GPU fast RIR simulations.…”
