“…The proposed criteria for the both frequency and severity categories were also based on Bowden et al (2013aBowden et al ( , 2013b) and on the industrial risk analysis guide (FEPAM, 2001), risk assessment tool and guidance (HSE 2008) and the standard risk management of Bahia [Bahia (Estado), 2009], and Australian Standards (2004) strongly cited by Fletcher (2005) and Underschultz et al (2011). Despite the references FEPAM (2001), HSE (2008) and Bahia (Estado (2009) are not specific to the risk of CO 2 storage, they are consolidated technical risk references.…”

“…For this to be true, the upward transport of CO 2 would have to be rapid and direct, along preferential conduits such as poorly cemented wells. But, as these conduits are considered the only realistic pathways for leakage (Bowden et al, 2013), our assumptions about the conservative geochemistry of leaks are reasonable. All data used for SNR calculations was collected by the investigators, because in both cases researchers presented both reservoir values, and observed concentrations and variabilities in soil gas or groundwater.…”

“…FEPs can be used in the initial stages of a risk assessment to prioritise possible scenarios, as well as for auditing of a particular risk assessment to ensure no possible scenarios were omitted (Gerstenberger et al, 2008). RISQUE (Bowden and Rigg, 2004) is a method which has demonstrated its utility as a site selection tool and which has been applied for example at the In Salah CCS Project (Dodds et al, 2011), Weyburn (Bowden et al, 2013) and a number of Australian CCS projects. It is based around the assessment of six Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that relate to containment, effectiveness, viability of the project, wider community benefits, community safety and community amenity.…”
