Show more

“…When the osmotic potential of the solution is lower to the cells of the embryo occurs at reduced speed germination and/or seedling growth (Carvalho and Nakagawa, 2000). This occurrence has been reported for seeds of several species, such as Senna occidentalis (Delachiave and Pinho, 2003) Chorisia speciosa (Fanti and Perez, 2003), Mimosa tenuiflora (Bakke et al, 2006), Daucus carota (Lopes and Dias, 2004) and Ruta graveolens (Yamashita et al, 2009).…”

“…This reduction may affect the kinetics of water absorption by the seeds (osmotic effect), and may also increase the concentration of ions in the embryo (toxic effect) to toxic levels (MARCOS FILHO, 2015). According to Maciel et al (2012) the metabolic events that culminate in germination can be affected by the suppression of mobilized reserves, which can be attributed to the role of salt in the "de novo" synthesis and in active tissues of enzymes responsible for the hydrolysis and transfer of hydrolysates from reserves to the embryo. Contribuciones a Las Ciencias Sociales, São José dos Pinhais, v.16, n.1, p. 124-143, 2023 jan. 2021 The results observed in the highest saline concentrations caused a decrease in the percentage of germination, a fact also observed by Azevedo et al (2003) and Nobrega et al…”
