Get employees talking through enterprise social media! Reduce cyberslacking: a moderated mediation model

Abstract: PurposeWhile the sizable body of research focusses on various psychological effects of enterprise social media (ESM), research connecting the link between ESM and cyberslacking is still very sparse. Drawing inspiration from the social bonding theory, the authors have proposed a moderated mediation model to explain how ESM affordances reduce cyberslacking, mediated significantly by workplace social bonding when the perceived co-worker involvement is high.Design/methodology/approachUtilising a sample of 384 resp… Show more

“…A total of 292 valid answers were received, which met the requirement of 10 answers per item. In order to test the hypothesis, current research prefers PROCESS macro in SPSS rather than other covariance-based structural equation modeling (SEM) programs (Nivedhitha and Sheik Manzoor, 2020). Unlike the SEM program, it is simple and effective to perform mediation and moderation analysis, avoiding sample size limitations and degree of freedom.…”

“…Recent studies have found that ESMP enables more efficient, transparent, and convenient communication, and that it promotes knowledge sharing and task performance (Cai et al, 2018 ; Fu et al, 2019 ; Sun et al, 2020 ; Luqman et al, 2021 ). The technical characteristics of ESMP promote a prosperous work environment for newcomers (Sun et al, 2019 ; Cai et al, 2020 ), effectively reduce network idling behavior (Nivedhitha and Manzoor, 2020 ), and establish social bonding in the workplace (Ollier-Malaterre, 2013 ; Shang and Sun, 2021 ). Although, technical characteristics of ESMP can support employee interact without the restrictions of time and space, increasing technical characteristics of media does not ensure stronger perceptions of interaction.…”
