“…The SELECT method has been applied to catch data from several marine species (e.g., Huse et al, 2000;Santos et al, 2003;Fonseca et al, 2005;Baremore et al, 2012;Rodríguez-Climent et al, 2012), but only few are available for freshwater species (Carol & Garcia-Berthou, 2007;Naesje et al, 2007;Hailu, 2014;Petriki et al, 2014). Gillnets and beach seines are the main fishing gears for tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758), catfish Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822), common carp Cyprinus carpio (Linnaeus, 1758), and barb Labeobarbus intermedius (Rüppell, 1835) and longlines for the catfish fishery in Lake Koka and other inland waters in Ethiopia; however, their selectivity on these target species and other known species in the country have not yet been assessed.…”
