Glass as a joining material for ceramic matrix composites: 25 years of research at Politecnico di Torino

Abstract: A revision and update about the research activity done in the past 25 years at Politecnico di Torino (Italy) on design and testing of glasses and glass-ceramics for the joining of Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) will be presented and discussed.The "glass-ceramic method" to obtain a thermo-mechanically stable joint starting from a glass will be detailed with some examples.
