Glass composition and excitation wavelength dependence of the luminescence of Eu3+ doped lead borate glass

Abstract: Articles you may be interested inEnergy transfer characteristics of silicate glass doped with Er3+, Tm3+, and Ho3+ for ∼2 μm emission This work explores the relationship between the bandwidth of luminescence spectral features and their relative intensities, using glasses doped with europium, Eu 3þ , over a wide composition range. Glasses of composition (B 2 O 3 ) 70 (PbO) 29 (0.5Eu 2 O 3 ) 1 and (B 2 O 3 ) z (PbO) 99.6-z (0.5Eu 2 O 3 ) 0.4 , (z ¼ 20, 30, 40, 60, 70), were prepared by the melting-quenching tec… Show more

“…Eu 3+ has also been preferred as a structural probe in determining the site occupancy and local symmetry in the host lattice . The luminescent properties and potential applications of Eu 3+ ions have been reported in many types of glassy host materials, eg, silicates, borates, phosphate, tungstate, and tellurite . Glasses are preferred over crystalline materials due to certain unique advantages such as high durability, simpler manufacturing technique, lower production cost, and excellent thermal and mechanical stabilities.…”

“…15 The researchers concluded that addition of a network modifier in borate glasses could produce the conversion of the triangular [BO 3 ] structure units to negative charged [BO 4 ] tetrahedral units. 16,17 However, most reports believed that Eu 3þ can be reduced by inequivalence substitution and importantly, can be shield by [BO 4 ] tetrahedral avoiding oxidation. [18][19][20] In our studies, oppositely, the Eu 3þ reduction effect can be formed in the structure environment consisted with plenty of [BO 3 ] units in borate glasses.…”

“…This should be induced by the presence in solution of a mixture of two distinct coordination environments associated with the square antiprismic and twisted square antiprismic isomers. 19 From Fig. 7, a clear distinction of isomers Eu-o-2L and Eu-p-2L from their emission spectra could be achieved.…”
