Global distribution and radiative forcing of soil dust aerosols in the Last Glacial Maximum simulated by the aerosol climate model

Abstract: Abstract. The integrated simulation for the global distribution and radiative forcing of soil dust aerosols in the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) is done by an aerosol climate model, SPRINTARS, in this study. It is compared with another simulation in the present climate condition. The global total emission flux of soil dust aerosols in the LGM is simulated to be about 2.4 times as large as that in the present climate, and the simulated deposition flux is in general agreement with estimations from ice core and mari… Show more

“…In the current version BC soluble mode is internally mixed with sulphate (R. Wang et al, 2016), for which the refractive index is estimated using the Maxwell-Garnett method, improving the accuracy of the BC optical absorption properties. Takemura et al, 2005Takemura et al, , 2009, is incorporated into a coupled atmosphereocean general circulation model, MIROC6 (Tatebe et al, 2019). The horizontal and vertical resolutions are T213 (∼0.5625 • × 0.5625 • in longitude and latitude) and L56, respectively.…”

“…The aerosol-climate coupled model MIROC5.2-SPRINTARS is used in this study, in which the direct effect, the first and second indirect effects of main aerosols for both water and ice clouds are considered (Takemura et al, 2005(Takemura et al, , 2009. The model includes five types of aerosols: black carbon, organic carbon (OC), sulfate (SO 4 ), sea salt, and dust.…”

“…In recent years Asian dust storm occurs in the spring and can transport long distance and even pass through ocean [1]. The dust loading can influence the atmospheric radiation budget through direct and indirect radiation forcing and take some uncertainties in global climate modeling [2]. On the other hand, during the process of dust transport, some Asian dust particles may fall into the ocean and make some impact on marine ecology [3].…”
