Global Maximum Power Point Tracking of Photovoltaic Module Arrays Based on Improved Cuckoo Search Algorithm

Abstract: In this paper, an improved cuckoo search-learning-based optimization algorithm (CSLBOA) for the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of a photovoltaic module array is presented. For any shading discovered on a photovoltaic module array, there will be more than one maximum power point (MPP) observed in the power–voltage (P–V) characteristic curve of the photovoltaic module array. However, only the local maximum power point (LMPP) can be tracked by the traditional maximum power point tracker, but not the global m… Show more

“…These algorithms can avoid imposing storage and computation burdens on the microprocessor, as well as improper results due to nonavailability or irregularities in the training data. By iteratively updating solutions using nature-inspired equations and extensively exploring the search space, these algorithms have been shown to successfully track the GMPP [2,11,18,19]. Comparatively, deterministic algorithms such as P&O and InC, directly calculate the optimal operating point based on a mathematical model, while metaheuristic algorithms explore the solution space iteratively to find the optimal operating point [20].…”

“…In Ref. [48], the author introduced an improved CS algorithm for MPPT in PV module arrays. The algorithm enhanced tracking efficiency by adjusting the step factor based on the PV characteristic curve slope and a number of iterations.…”
