Glucose bioconversion in heavy water: Contribution of water deuterium atoms to the isotope composition of glycerol

Abstract: Hydrogen exchange in glycerol formed by fermentation of D-and D-[1-13 C]glucose in heavy water in the presence of Saccharomyces cerevisiae was studied by 13 C NMR. A method was suggested for calculating the fragment distribution of natural deuterium in methylene groups of glycerol for isotope indentifi cation of carbohydrates using SNIF-NMR .
