Gold Nanoparticles as the Catalyst of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube Synthesis

Abstract: Gold nanoparticles have been proven to act as efficient catalysts for chemical reactions, such as oxidation and hydrogen production. In this review we focus on a different aspect of the catalysis of gold nanoparticles; single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) synthesis. This is not a traditional meaning of catalytic reaction, but SWCNTs cannot be synthesized without nanoparticles. Previously, gold was considered as unsuitable metal species as the catalyst of SWCNT synthesis. However, gold nanoparticles with diame… Show more

“…16 They are typically used as catalysts for the growth of nanowires made of a wide range of materials such as ZnO, Si, and Ge as well as the active sites for surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) applications. [17][18][19] The experimental setup used and described below is a novel nanoparticle vapor deposition (NVD) system designed and manufactured by DCA Instruments combined with a DLI Vapbox 1500 NP injector (Kemstream).…”

“…In the following, products obtained from each of these three groups are called nanotechnology-based products. Nevertheless, its commercial synthesis and its using as building blocks to produce new materials are still an open problem (Homma 2014;Mehra et al 2014). For example, CNTs have been found a wide range of applications as Fig.…”
