Gold nanoparticles stabilized by modified halloysite nanotubes for catalytic applications

Abstract: A highly sustainable prototype of a flow system based on gold nanoparticles (4.2 nm) supported on thiol‐functionalized halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) was developed for catalytic applications. The catalytic performances were evaluated using the reduction of 4‐nitrophenol to 4‐aminophenol as a model system. Under the best experimental conditions (0.0001 mol%, 1.97 × 10−8 mg of Au nanoparticles), an impressive apparent turnover frequency value up to 2 204 530 h−1 was achieved and the halloysite‐based catalyst showed… Show more

“…The HNT-epoxy shows the presence of carbon along with the oxygen, silicon, and aluminum [57]. The HNT-thiol illustrates the existence of sulfur confirming the loading of thiol group through covalently bonded organosilane [45,58]. Small peaks of calcium, chloride, palladium, and gold are present because of the calcium salts (calcium carbonate or chloride) from the clay, and pre-coating with palladium/gold on the material [59].…”

“…The diffractogram patterns were recorded using random oriented mounts with CuKα radiation, operating at 45 kV and 40 mA, in the range 4–60 °2θ. HNTs-SH material was synthetized as reported elsewhere [ 15 ].…”

“…By exploiting the strong gold-thiol affinity, in 2019 the HNTs-SH system was used for the synthesis of gold based catalyst [ 146 ]. The formation of the AuNPs was achieved by adding an aqueous solution of HAuCl 4 to an aqueous dispersion of HNT-SH, followed by reduction with NaBH 4 in methanol.…”
