Gothic Churches in Paris St Gervais Et St Protais Image Matching 3d Reconstruction to Understand the Vaults System Geometry

Abstract: ABSTRACT:This paper is part of a research about ribbed vaults systems in French Gothic Cathedrals. Our goal is to compare some different gothic cathedrals to understand the complex geometry of the ribbed vaults. The survey isn't the main objective but it is the way to verify the theoretical hypotheses about geometric configuration of the flamboyant churches in Paris. The survey method's choice generally depends on the goal; in this case we had to study many churches in a short time, so we chose 3D reconstructi… Show more

“…resistant-by-shape structures, and in situ geometrical surveys could give valuable insight into the performance of these vaults, e.g. (Theodossopoulos, 2008;Rodriguez et al, 2012;Palacios and Martín Talaverano, 2013;Wendland et al, 2014;Capone et al, 2015).…”

“…The thermographic recordings and laser-scanner surveys highlighted the various arrangements used for the cloister vaults. At the same time, many other authors studied vaulted systems under different points of view across the world, rediscovering specific construction techniques (Holzer, 2013, Piccoli,1999, Napolitano et al, 2017, Capone et al, 2015. Unfortunately, a lot of drawing and models set-up during such different researches risk to be lost during the years, limiting the possibility to derive transversal connections.…”

“…Some studies have used photogrammetry to gain the point clouds for the creation of 3D as built models of gothic vaults in Paris. They were compared with the theoretical 3D models that come from the analysis of ancient treatises on vaults construction (Capone et al, 2015). A recent study creates an HBIM Library of Renaissance domes, whose geometry is based on the geometrical rules that can be found in historical treatises (Capone et al, 2019).…”
