Graphene oxide nanocomposite hydrogel based on poly(acrylic acid) grafted onto salep: an adsorbent for the removal of noxious dyes from water

Abstract: In this study, a graphene oxide nanocomposite hydrogel (GONH) based on poly(acrylic acid) grafted onto a natural salep polysaccharide was synthesized and investigated as an adsorbent for the removal of cationic dye from aqueous solution.

“…Some nanoparticles such as graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets and nanocelluloses can be introduced into the network structure of polysaccharide‐based hydrogels by self‐assembly method to increase their specific surface area. [ 80–82 ] For example, Hu et al. prepared an ion‐imprinted adsorbent through ice segregation‐induced self‐assembly of salecan and GO nanosheets for selective adsorption of Cd 2+ ( Figure 17 ).…”

“…The properties of the nanocomposites can be easily adjusted by manipulating the properties of the hydrogel and the composite material. 15 Fang et al used atom transfer radical polymerization to covalently connect graphene to polystyrene, resulting in improved thermal and mechanical characteristics. 16 Castelain et al 17 revealed alternative chemical approaches to functionalize graphene with short-chain polyethylene, which altered the mechanical characteristics of graphene-based HDPE nanocomposites.…”

“…To create large-scale aerogels, KH550 (3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane) was used to coat GO with BNs, then freeze drying was employed to create 3D structures. In situ polymerization of a propyleneinitiator backfilled 3D aerogel produced the GO-BN/PP nanocomposites [18][19][20][21].…”
