Abstract:We study the gravitational wave memory effect in spacetimes related to flat space by a conformal transformation. The discussion is general but the gravitational wave length scale is assumed to be small compared with the background curvature radius. The general formulas are applied to Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metrics of all spatial curvatures. The effect of new terms stemming from spatial curvature is potentially detectable in future gravitational wave measurements.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
