The pharmaceutical industry is the backbone of the healthcare system for any country. However, this industry faces various risks, which hamper its efficient working in providing life-saving medicines/services to the people. In this context, the purpose of the study is to improve the resilience and performance of the pharmaceutical industry (PI) with the identification, and assessment of supply chain (SC) risks. A case illustration has also been presented in the Indian context. The study utilizes an extensive literature survey and the Delphi method for identifying, finalizing, and classifying the risks into seven categories. The Intuitionistic Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (IF-AHP) has been used to analyze and prioritize the risks to determine their criticality. The results show that the three most important risks are financial, supplier, and demand/customer/market. Within these risks, the three most critical sub-risks are found to be loss of customers, raw material (RM) issues, and bad reputation of the company, respectively. The study provides managers with an extensive list of PI risks for their consideration. The results also present the critical risks which need to be mitigated for enhanced performance and resilience of the industry. The study also emphasizes the importance of interconnection between various SC partners for better risk management.

PurposeThe already scarce financial resources coupled with the current COVID-19 pandemic have created the worst scenario for Indian micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The application of supply chain finance (SCF) solutions to MSMEs can enhance the performance and growth of the sector. But, the implementation of SCF solutions faces various obstacles which restrict the MSMEs' ability to meet their financial requirements. The purpose of this paper is to explore and prioritize the various important barriers hindering SCF application in Indian MSMEs.Design/methodology/approachLiterature on SCF and MSMEs are critically reviewed and barriers affecting the SCF application in Indian MSMEs are scrutinized with the consultation of the experts. The present study applies intuitionistic fuzzy-analytic hierarchy process (IF-AHP) methodology to prioritize the identified barriers and thereafter, the sensitivity analysis is also done to observe the identified barriers under different situations.FindingsThe results of the study have revealed that poor cash flow management and working capital management disruption are acting as the most prioritized barriers of SCF. The external factor of cultural challenges has been prioritized as the minimum-influence factor that has least negative influence on the operations of SCF in MSMEs.Practical implicationsThe present study bears an important practical and managerial implication to solve real world problems of financial constraints of MSMEs. The managers should emphasize upon the importance smooth flow of cash and working capital management across the supply chains by which better SCF solution can be implemented in MSMEs.Originality/valueThe study conducted is an effort to address the barriers of SCF in Indian MSMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The implementation of IF-AHP and sensitivity analysis would help managers and policymakers to comprehend and resolve the prioritized barriers and sub-barriers of SCF in the MSMEs.

As livestock plays a very crucial role in Indian economy. Livestock trading in India is very unstructured. The Buyer can be farmer or Diary farm owner who wants to procure a livestock. In this research the Livestock which is considered is the Murrah buffalo belong to water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) breed which are mainly kept for milk production. The buyer is available with 8 suppliers which are fulfilling the same criteria of the breed. The Suppliers are divided into two segments, large scale supplier and small scale supplier. The supplier having more than 10 livestock of same breed has been considered large scale supplier, and the supplier having less than or equal to 10 has been considered small scale supplier. As competition is increasing every day the procurement activities are highly important. So, Multi criteria decision making approach has been used. Specifically, Analytic Hierarchy Process has been used for the selection of vendor among the alternatives available. In this research three criteria, seven sub criteria and eight alternatives has been evaluated. All vendors are ranked according to the result obtained from the AHP to aid the decision making. By implementation of AHP we were able to obtain the best fit vendor. AHP is a practical tool used for aiding the decision making when there are too many parameters. In Livestock trading ecosystem this tool will help in decision making
