Biomimicry is a modern interdisciplinary approach that motivates leaders by nature to use its applications. Leadership is not only a subject of study in biology but also in all social sciences. This research focuses on understanding the mechanism behind the coordinated behaviour observed in mobile animal groups in order to assess the impact of leadership models in biology and sociology on group behaviours. In this context, this study aims to reveal the common grounds and to establish bridges between agile leadership and biomimicry by using a new model on grey wolves. The research was done by qualitative analysis method including current literature. The findings reveal that there is a strong relationship between characteristics and qualities agile leadership and of wolves. It is resulted that natural and biological cycles inspire on the leadership models. Understanding this differential impact and the ability of leadership is the key to appreciate the function of group organizations in collective animal systems.

Impact Assessment Model for the Implementation of Cargo Bike Transshipment Points in Urban Districts

Mitigating climate change and improving urban livability is prompting cities to improve sustainability of urban transportation and logistics. Cargo bikes, in combination with urban transshipment points, are gaining momentum as a green last mile alternative. Although a wide body of research proves their viability in dense urban areas, knowledge about planning urban transshipment points is very limited. This also entails the siting of such facilities and the assessment of effects on emissions. This study therefore presents a first quantitative scenario-based model that assesses the impacts on a district. It examines different strategies for siting urban transshipment points in a single district and its effect on traffic, the carbon footprint, and air quality to give strategic insights where to create candidate locations for such facilities. Our result contributes to knowledge of planning urban transshipment facilities and assessing the impact of different configurations. The findings demonstrated that the use of cargo bikes to make courier, express, and parcel (CEP) deliveries in urban districts could reduce greenhouse gas (GHG), particulate matter (PM10), and nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions significantly. However, the choice of vehicles completing inbound and outbound processes and the strategies for siting urban transshipment points display widely differing and even conflicting potential to reduce emissions.

Image segmentation is a significant step in image processing that applies to various fields. These fields include machine vision, object detection, astronomy, biometric recognition systems (face, fingerprint, plate, and eye), medical imaging, video surveillance, and many other image-based technologies. Efficient image segmentation is one of the most important tasks and critical roles in automatic image processing. Especially in engineering studies, finding the most suitable solutions for problems is one of the important research topics. Bio-inspired algorithms such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Artificial Bee Colony (ABC), and Bat Algorithm (BAT), etc. are used to find the optimal solutions in search spaces and Ant Lion Optimization (ALO) is one of these algorithms. In recent years, bio-inspired algorithms are used to optimize the segmentation parameters of the images. This research proposes a modified region growing (RG) image segmentation approach using bio-inspired ALO. Region growing (RG) has three main problems as the selection of the right seeds, the number of seeds, and the region growing strategy. Therefore, ALO was used to solve seed selection problems in RG. In this study, firstly, the median filter was applied to the inputs to improve the quality of the images. Subsequently, the region growing segmentation was carried out using optimal seed points obtained from the ALO. For obtaining the optimal seeds, ALO was used to solve the limitations of RG during the segmentation process. The success of the proposed approach was tested using some images taken from the BSDS300 (Berkeley) dataset. The experimental results show that the proposed method segments almost all the images.
