Aims We aimed to evaluate the correlation between preoperative and postoperative resilience scores and postoperative outcomes at minimum 2-year follow-up after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Methods We prospectively enrolled 98 patients who underwent rotator cuff repair. We assessed resilience using the Brief Resilience Scale. Postoperatively, we obtained patient-reported outcomes measures including American Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons scores, Single Assessment Numeric Evaluation, and Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System Global Health-10 at minimum 2-year follow-up. We used Spearman correlation coefficients ( r) to assess the relationship between variables. Results Ninety-one of 98 patients (93%) provided follow-up at an average of 32 months. Preoperative Brief Resilience Scale did not show a statistically significant correlation with American Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons ( r = 0.156; p = 0.142). However, preoperative Brief Resilience Scale showed statistically significant correlations with Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System Global Health-10 ( r = 0.290; p = 0.005) and Single Assessment Numeric Evaluation ( r = 0.259; p = 0.014). Postoperative Brief Resilience Scale showed statistically significant correlations with American Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons ( r = 0.291; p = 0.005), Single Assessment Numeric Evaluation ( r = 0.384; p < 0.001) and Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System Global Health-10 ( r = 0.515; p < 0.001). Discussion Resilience may be a valuable predictor of patients at risk of having suboptimal outcomes after rotator cuff repair and a target to improve surgical outcomes through non-surgical means.

This article proposes an integrative model for the psychological resources of grit. The growing body of work in nursing on the topic of grit indicates considerable interest in achieving long-term goals, especially amidst uncertainty from the COVID-19 pandemic. Motivational behaviors are thought to influence engagement in continuing education in nursing, thereby improving clinical practice and patient outcomes. The model was informed by a comprehensive review of the literature. Sixteen attributes for acquiring and strengthening four psychological resources of grit were identified. Each attribute is discussed along with interrelationships and implications for professional nursing development. Given the complex demands placed on health professionals, this model is both timely and relevant for all nurse and education providers interested in enhancing personal characteristics that may mitigate against stress and build capabilities for goal achievement. Effects of Gratitude Disposition, Social Support, and Occupational Stress of Clinical Nurses on Grit

Purpose: This is a descriptive research that aims to identify the effects of clinical nurses' gratitude disposition, social support, and occupational stress on grit and provide basic data for the development of future grit promotion among clinical nurses.Methods: The study participants were 164 nurses who had worked at three general hospitals in Jeollabuk-do, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire from May 2022 to June 2022. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis were conducted using SPSS 23.0.Results: The average grit score was 42.26±5.48. Grit showed a positive correlation with gratitude disposition and social support and a negative correlation with occupational stress. The factors influencing grit were gratitude disposition, clinical experience of 12~60 months, and occupational stress; social support did not have any effect on grit. The explanatory power was 25.0%.Conclusion: Results confirmed that the higher the gratitude disposition among clinical nurses, the higher the grit; and the lower the occupational stress, the higher the grit. In order to increase grit among clinical nurses, measures at the nursing organization level, including training and programs that can strengthen gratitude disposition and reduce occupational stress, are needed.
