Groundwater quality assessment using geospatial and statistical approaches over Faridabad and Gurgaon districts of National Capital Region, India

Abstract: This study presents an assessment of groundwater quality over the two constituent districts (Faridabad and Gurgaon) of the National Capital Region (NCR), India, using geospatial and statistical approaches. These districts have been subjected to rapid urbanization and industrialization in recent years. The groundwater quality parameters viz., pH, electrical conductivity (EC), carbonate (CO32−), bicarbonate (HCO3−), chloride (Cl−), sulphate (SO42−), nitrate (NO3−), fluoride (F−), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+)… Show more

“…Principal component analysis is a method that reduces a dataset’s dimensionality significantly, making it easier to analyze while reducing information loss [ 159 , 160 ]. Principal component analysis (PCA) is a multivariate statistical method used to investigate correlations between several variables and uncover their fundamental structures [ 161 ].…”

“…12 In recent years, the GIS (Geographic Information System) approach, along with the IDW (inverse distance weighted) interpolation approach, is the simple and best approach for estimating and analysing spatial data. 5,16 GIS allows for several sources of data integration, like satellite imagery and topographic maps, to create accurate and detailed spatial representations. These tools have revolutionized the way of handling large data, allowing more informed decision-making and effective planning.…”

“…Chloride and SO4 2are commonly present in wastewater worldwide, particularly in saline water (Nageswara Rao et al, 2022;Swain et al, 2022). The concentration of chloride varies from 19 to 461 mg/l (1972 decade) and from 40 to 300 mg/l (2010 decade).…”
