Growth, production and feed conversion performance of the gurami sago (Osphronemus goramy Lacepède, 1801) strain in different aquaculture systems

Abstract: Giant gourami ( ), Background:Osphronemus goramy, Osphronemidae belonging to the gurami sago strain, is an important economic fish species that was newly released for domestication in 2018 in Indonesia. The present study aimed to determine the growth, production and feed conversion efficiency of gurami sago strain in different aquaculture systems.A mean of 240 juveniles were stocked (mean, 54.53 g and 13.88 Methods: cm) into concrete ponds, floating net cages and earthen freshwater ponds (12 m ) with three rep… Show more

“…Similarly, silver barb (B. gonionotus) and zebrafish (Danio rerio) fed with dietary blanched moringa leaf meal 43 and plant-protein based diets 47 found positive allometric growth. On the contrary, gold fish (Carassius auratus) fed with different concentrations of carrot 48 and gurami sago (Osphronemus goramy) stocked in concrete ponds, floating net cages, and earthen freshwater ponds, 49 found negative allometric growth.…”

“…FCR at diet P2 was 1.36, while a value of 1.55 was observed in P4. The commercial fish feed caused a higher FCR when the samples were cultured in earthen freshwater ponds (FCR = 1.87) compared to concrete freshwater ponds (FCR = 1.45) 4,8 . The weight gain and growth of the animal decreased with increasing fiber content in the diet 43 .…”

“…However, its contribution to the total production of freshwater aquaculture is lower compared to tilapia, African catfish, and Pangasius catfish 5 . This has led to the active engagement of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia in encouraging fish farmers to increase the annual production of giant gurami from various local strains, including Tambago, Palapa, Bastar, Galunggung, Blusafir, and Sago 4,[6][7][8] .…”
