Hadrons in Strongly Interacting Matter

Abstract: We review the current status of theories and experiments aiming at an understanding and a determination of the properties of light vector and scalar mesons inside strongly interacting hadronic matter. Starting from a discussion of the relevant symmetries of QCD and their connection with the hadronic description through QCD sum rules we then discuss hadronic models used to calculate the in-medium self-energies of hadrons and their spectral functions. The difficulties to link these calculated properties to actua… Show more

“…In the low invariant mass region which is dominated by lepton pairs produced during the later stages of the collision, dilepton emission takes place due to the decay of vector mesons. Consequently, the spectral properties of vector mesons, the ρ meson in particular has been a subject of intense discussion [7,4,2,8]. We find that it is only for the π − π loop that one calculates the thermal self-energy loop for the vector mesons directly.…”

“…Reactions of this type are explored for the study of meson -nucleus interactions and for the investigation of hadron in-medium properties. A recent review of the in-medium properties of scalar and vector mesons derived from photoproduction and other reactions is given by Leupold, Mosel, and Metag [142]; results for the in-medium properties of nucleon resonances are summarized, e.g., in [143].…”
