Harmonic analysis of peripheral pulse for screening subjects at high risk of diabetes

Abstract: Power spectral density (PSD) of peripheral pulses in human has been investigated in the past for its clinical applications. Continuing the efforts, data acquired using Peripheral Pulse Analyser in research projects sponsored by Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences in 207 control subjects, 18 descendants of diabetic patients and 22 patients with systemic hypertension have been subjected to PSD analysis for its study of harmonics. Application software, named Pulse Harmonic Analyser specifically developed for th… Show more

“… 74 Furthermore, pulse wave analysis has been employed to predict diabetes risk in women, with the diabetes group demonstrating higher C1 and C2 values and lower C3 values compared to the control group. 29 However, these findings are not consistently uniform, with C1 reported as both higher 29 and lower 28 , 79 in diabetic patients relative to healthy controls. Further research is warranted to determine the most reliable indicators for predicting diabetes using pulse wave analysis.…”

“…78 Peripheral Pulse Analyzer: Developed by the Electronic Division of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai, this device measures the rate of change of electrical impedance (dZ/dt) at the wrist while the subject is in a supine position, primarily for variability analysis. 79 Hospital Vital Sign Monitoring Equipment: Originally designed for monitoring patients' vital signs in healthcare settings, equipment such as COLIN BP-508 80 , 81 and TM-2420 82 has also been utilized as a data source for pulse analysis. …”

“…There are several data decomposition methods in pulse wave analysis, of which harmonic analysis (HA) for discrete-time Fourier series (DTFS) [1][2][3], wavelet transformation [4], and ensemble empirical mode decomposition [5], among others, are efficient ways of viewing waveforms with regard to time/frequency or a nonlinear domain. The HA of arterial pressure pulses has standard protocols and reliability assessments, as well as being established in [6,7], for effective harmonic wave analyzers (TD01C, Mii-Ann Tech.…”
