Harmonic mitigation for power rectifier using passive filter combination

Abstract: Power rectifiers are widely used in different industrial applications that deliver DC voltage supply for many types of loads like electrolysis cells, metal electroplating and other DC loads. These rectifiers act as nonlinear loads injecting harmonic currents to the AC mains with lots of troubles and negative impact on the utility grid and the load itself, like increasing losses, measurement error, protection device false tripping and distortion of the voltage at the PCC affecting other loads at the same point.… Show more

“…Specialists may encounter some challenges in designing PPFs, and various measures, conditions, and practical standards should be analyzed. The use of PPFs to improve the deforming regime and to improve the power factor is difficult because it must also take into account the specifics of the consumer (non-linear, capacitive, or inductive character) [20,26,27,33].…”

“…In recent years, the power network has also been exposed to other harmonic sources, with direct effects on the sustainability of electrical equipment, such as electric cars, wind and solar power stations with distribution systems, direct current conversion and transmission of high voltages, etc. [14,19,21,33].…”

“…[11] By applying passive filters in order to filtering the harmonics from the power system is the preliminary & widely adopted technologies. [12] A passive filter is commonly a seriesconnected, parallel connected else hybrid-connected circuit. [13,14] The filter LC parameters are correctly tuned in order to make the circuit resonance at a definite frequency to reduce the harmonic distortion.…”
