Heavy Metal Pollution

Abstract: The chapter covers various issues related to heavy metals. Here we attempt to document the possible definitions for heavy metals. Heavy metals, the elements having density higher than 3.5 g/cm2 are being added at high rate to our close vicinity. These metals lead to serious problems related to ecology and mankind. Toxic effects of heavy metals are dependent on the concentration of metals, reactivity of metal species and duration of exposure. There is a need to address the toxicological and remedial aspects of … Show more

“…The measurements were then used to assess health risk potentials following the consumption of heavy metals-contaminated fish. The results of this study can be used for the early warnings of the marine ecosystem pollution caused these three heavy metals, or as an ideal indicator in the assessment of current marine environmental pollution [ 24 , 25 ].…”

“…Particulate matter deposited on the lung surface can lead to tissue damage and lung inflammation (Wei and Tang 2018 ; Losacco and Perillo 2018 ; Happo 2009 ). SO 2 is one of the five main pollutants that together account for more than 90% of air pollution in the world (Sharma 2001 ). Sulfur oxides in combination with particulate matter and moisture (e.g.…”
