Hematological Changes in an Ovine Model of Acute Myocardial Infarction

Abstract: To diagnose acute myocardial infarction, selected cardiac markers as well as hematological and biochemical indices have been studied in human being, however, rare investigations were done on the values of hematologic analysis in an ovine model of myocardial infarction. To observe the change of the values in hematologic parameters in sheep, acute myocardial infarction was induced by ligation of left anterior descending coronary artery. For this purpose, ten healthy sheep were randomly divided into two group (5 … Show more

“…Sheep have been commonly used as an animal model for many cardiovascular studies. 6,8 In this study, we evaluated the usefulness of scar size in combination with selected parameters to track the progression of left ventricular myocardial disease. Daily routine clinical evaluation of the animals was uninformative in the assessment of the onset and progression of disease.…”

“…In addition, the sheep heart is similar to that of humans both in terms of size and the composition of cardiomyocytes. 5,6,18 The current study provides valuable insights regarding the use of infarction scar size in conjunction with left ventricular ejection fraction as a useful predictor of advanced left ventricular dysfunction.…”

“…Still, the specific effects on immunogenic and vascular gene expressions and gross and microscopic parameters remain relatively unexplored. The past decade has seen increased human health hazards linked to uncontrolled smartphone use (Fathi & Farahzadi, 2014). Human bodies absorb radiation, converted into electric and magnetic fields, altering the structure of cells, the plasma membrane and receptors for various biomolecules during embryonic development (Al‐Qudsi & Azzouz, 2012; Bhat, 2013).…”
