Hepatic lipase activity after liver denervation in hypothyroid rats

Abstract: Hepatic hilar denervation, hepatic vagotomy or sham operation were performed in hypothyroid rats. Activities of hepatic lipase were measured nine days after surgery. Sham operation in itself was associated with a decrease of hepatic lipase activity by about 40% compared with non-operated animals. Both hilar denervation and hepatic vagotomy were associated with increased hepatic lipase activity (40% and 35%, compared with sham-operated animals). Liver contents of norepinephrine were reduced by about 90% after h… Show more

“…Hepatic hilar denervation, which causes a total loss of the sympathetic and vagal reflexes, results in a 90% drop of norepinephrine concentration in the liver (Berg et al, 1990; Kato et al, 1996; Carlson et al, 1998). Hepatic vagotomy alone does not have any effect on the hepatic norepinephrine concentrations (Berg et al, 1990).…”

“…Berg and colleagues were the fi rst to report that adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) lowered albumin excretion and improved glomerular fi ltration rate (GFR) in patients with membranous nephropathy, 7,8 in steroid-treated patients with renal disease, 9 and in patients on hemodialysis. 10 Almost all participants in these studies had a reduction in serum low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and lipoprotein(a), whereas the infl uence of the agent on triglyceride metabolism was less consistent.…”
