Heterogeneity-Aware Scheduling on SoCs for Autonomous Vehicles

Abstract: Systems-on-Chips (SoCs) that power autonomous vehicles (AVs) must meet stringent performance and safety requirements prior to deployment. With increasing complexity in AV applications, the system needs to meet stringent real-time demands of multiple safety-critical applications simultaneously. A typical AV-SoC is a heterogeneous multiprocessor consisting of accelerators supported by general-purpose cores. Such heterogeneity, while needed for power-performance efficiency, complicates the art of task (process) s… Show more

“…Today, it is generally believed that Moore's Law has primarily ended (or is finishing) [51], [52], and designers must explore alternative architectures with low overhead, such as Domain-Specific Architectures (DSAs). DSAs represent an emerging paradigm of architectures that optimize data flow for applications in a target domain through hardware acceleration while providing programming flexibility [53], [54]. Examples of recent domains for which DSAs can be highly beneficial include machine learning, artificial intelligence, signal/image processing, data encryption, etc.…”

“…In these unknown situations, the driver must steer the vehicle. Most of deployments of Level 4 are currently set in urban-based condition [9]. It is expected for fully automated valet parking or can be done directly in conjunction with a taxi service.…”
