High Brightness and High Voltage Dimmable LED Driver for Advanced Lighting System

Abstract: In energy efficient system designs, LED lighting leads to reduction in global energy demand. This paper proposes a high brightness, high efficiency, dimmable LED driver based on linear current regulator technology for DC grid distribution systems. The proposed driver has excellent characteristics like highest lumen per watt, long lifetime, high reliability, compact, low cost, both environmental and user friendly which makes it suitable for lighting applications. Steady state and small signal model of the propo… Show more

“…Table 1 lists relevant studies on optoelectronic semiconductors with linear regulators. In the literature [7][8][9][10], light-emitting diodes (LEDs) were typically used as the light source, and bipolar junction transistors (BJT) and metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFET) were used as the linear regulators. Only in [11] was a GaN HEMT used.…”

“…With the advantages of high efficiency, fast response, wide color gamut, long lifespan and small size, high brightness light emitting diode (HB-LED) has widely substituted conventional cold-cathode fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps [1]- [6]. As for lighting equipment, according to IEC61000-3-2 Class C, a strict requirement for input current harmonic content of power converter is established [7].…”

“…The addition PWM dimming switch and the digital control strategy can expand the dimming range to a larger range (Huang et al, 2019;Wang et al, 2018), but the algorithm is complex and the cost is increased. A linear regulated dimmable LED using the current sense resistor, achieves dimming from 5% to 100% brightness, but the change process of LED dimming power supply current will have a certain influence on the color temperature of the LED chip (Meraj et al, 2019;Yau et al, 2020).…”
