High-dose radiation exposure and hypothyroidism: aetiology, prevention and replacement therapy

Abstract: Without any doubt, high dose radiation exposure can induce hypothyroidism. However, there are open questions related to the mechanisms of its induction, corresponding dose thresholds and possible countermeasures.
