High-Efficient Nd:YLF Q-Switched Laser Operating at 523.5 nm

Abstract: An intracavity frequency doubling electro-optically Q-switched Nd:YLF 523.5 nm laser is developed. An appropriate cylindrical lens is employed in the oscillator to optimize the mode size and to improve the stability of the cavity. With an incident pump pulse energy of 58 mJ at a 500 Hz repetition rate, a green pulse energy of 16.8 mJ at 523.5 nm is obtained, corresponding to an optical-optical conversion efficiency of 29%. The pulse width is less than 8 ns, and the beam quality factor is 𝑀 2 ≤ 2.5.

“…The system consists of three parts, an EO Q-switched oscillator, Nd:YLF slab amplifiers and a frequency conversion stage. A U-type arrangement of the oscillator [11] could make the construction compact. The gain material was a pair of a-cut Nd:YLF crystal slabs (1% Nd 3 þ -doped), the dimension of each crystal was 4 Â 4 Â 12 mm 3 .…”

“…Similarly, Li reported a stable-unstable hybrid resonator Nd:YLF laser in 2008, 15.1 mJ pulse energy with 7.1 ns pulse width at 523 nm wavelength was achieved [9]. Lu also designed a diode-end-pumped, conductively cooled intra-cavity frequency doubling Nd:YLF lasers for 527 nm or 523 nm output [10,11]. But until now, high energy diode-pumped 523 nm Nd:YLF green lasers have rarely been reported.…”

“…In 2008, pulse energy of 15.1 mJ with pulse width of 7.1 ns at 523 nm wavelength was achieved [18] . In 2014, Lu designed a diode-end pumped, conductively cooled intra-cavity frequency-doubled Nd:YLF laser to achieve green pulse energy of 16.8 mJ at 523 nm [19] . Also in 2014, Liu reported an acousto-optic (AO) switched diode-side-pumped 1314 nm Nd:YLF laser with the highest pulse energy of 3.8 mJ at a repetition rate of 1 kHz [20] .…”

“…In this Letter, we report a conductively cooled, Q-switched Nd:YLF 1053 nm laser employing a MOPA system. The oscillator is an electro-optical Q-switched Nd:YLF laser, which is dual-end-pumped by two fibercoupled laser diodes (LDs) operating at 806 nm [19] . Four Nd:YLF slabs are adopted in the amplifier stages.…”
