High electromagnetic interference shielding of poly(ether-sulfone)/multi-walled carbon nanotube nanocomposites fabricated by an eco-friendly route

Abstract: High-performance polymer matrix nanocomposites based on poly(ether-sulfone) (PES) matrix reinforced with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were fabricated using planetary ball mill followed by hot pressing. Their electrical properties and the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI-SE) were investigated and discussed. A percolation threshold of about 0.65 vol% MWCNT was obtained. The electrical conductivity was increased by more than ten orders of magnitude at the percolation threshold a… Show more

“…The elemental analysis of rGO-NG (table 1) also confirmed the successful The high-resolution O1s and C1s spectra in figures 5(c), (d) show that some oxygen-containing groups remain in place after the pyrolysis and corrosion processes. Meanwhile, the high-resolution I3d spectra proved that the treatment with HI can lead to ion doping in the form of I 3 − and I 5 − , as shown in figure 5(e) [3]. These results verified that there were many defects, heteroatoms, and functional groups in rGO-NG.…”

“…Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is the core method to prevent eliminate electromagnetic (EM) pollution. As an important form of EMI, dielectric loss includes many types, such as conductivity loss, dipolar polarization loss and relaxation loss [1][2][3]. Among them, conductivity loss is the most important type of loss for conductive materials.…”

“…This work has the following characteristics: Compared with the work using the DPR method, [ 33 ] the plasma discharge device used in this work is simpler and less costly. Compared with carbon‐based nanocomposites, [ 13 ] the prepared nano‐silver coating in this work has a better EMI SE. Compared with the composite film doped with silver nanomaterial, [ 55 ] the prepared nano‐silver coating in this work has a lower thickness and better conductivity.…”

“…The laminates consist of four layers of CFSs, and five layers of WVs showed 52 dB of absorption-dominated SE in the X-band with excellent mechanical properties and thermal conductivity. Verma et al [58] fabricated MWCNT reinforced poly-ether-sulfone (PES) matrix by ball milling followed by hot compression molding. They achieved a percolation threshold at 0.65 vol% of MWCNTs and noticed the conductivity was frequency-independent.…”
