In this work, we demonstrate the generation of 640 nm high-order Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) modes with controllable order up to 42 from a Pr:YLF laser utilizing intracavity spherical aberration (SA). To the best of our knowledge, these constitute the highest order vortex beams in the visible spectral region, obtained from a simple laser cavity with strict SA management. By precisely adjusting the on-axis displacement of the laser output coupler, the angular index m of the generated LG modes could be varied in the range of 12−42. This work provides a flexible and robust method of generating visible vortex beams with tunable, high-index topological charge, which have potential use in spatial measurement, fluid dynamics and active debris removal applications.

Visible pulsed vortex beams with controllable temporal profiles and customizable transverse modes are of great scientific and practical interest. The generation of visible pulsed vortex beams from lasers remains a significant challenge due to the limited availability of well-developed saturable absorbers (SAs) in the visible spectrum. Here, we report the generation of 640 nm passively Q-switched vortex beams from a Pr:YLF all-solid-state laser, for the first time to the best of our knowledge, using quasi-2D (PEA) 2 (CsPbBr 3 ) n−1 PbBr 4 perovskites as the SA. Stable pulsed TEM 0,0 mode generation with a tunable pulse duration from 826.5 to 371.2 ns and a corresponding repetition rate from 63.7 to 121.3 kHz was achieved. Additionally, customizable transverse modes were generated from the Pr:YLF laser cavity using a noncollinear pumping technique to precisely manage the gain and loss characteristics of intracavity transverse modes. A first-order vortex beam at 640 nm was obtained through astigmatic mode conversion from the passively Q-switched Pr:YLF laser. These results present a new paradigm in generating visible pulsed vortex beams, offering excellent application potential in underwater communication and super-resolution imaging.

Cylindrical Vector Beams with an MOPA Amplifier Based on Nonlinear Polarization Rotation Mode-Locking

CVBs (cylindrical vector beams) are widely used in optical imaging, optical trapping, material processing, etc. In this study, based on mode-selective couplers and passive mode-locking fiber technology, a cylindrical vector fiber amplifier with an MOPA (master oscillator power amplifier) structure was developed. In the experiment, the pre-amp stage reached 19.87 mW output power and a CVB output with a mode purity greater than 97%. The measured beam quality factor was M2 = 2.1. The CVB output power obtained by the first-amp stage was 152.4 mW, and the mode purity was greater than 92%. The measured beam quality factor was M2 = 1.99. The internal inhomogeneity and external effects of the isotropic LMA (large-mode-area) fiber led to a decrease in beam quality and mode purity. After amplification, the gain of the fundamental mode was higher and the power was greater, resulting in a greatly reduced mode purity. This CVB fiber amplifier yielded important research value in expanding the applications of high-power fiber lasers.
