High‐performance liquid chromatography/electrospray ionisation mass spectrometric characterisation of metabolites produced by Pseudovibrio sp. W64, a marine sponge derived bacterium isolated from Irish waters

Abstract: Pseudovibrio sp. W64 produces methylated TDA in addition to TDA, and metabolises lipids and amino acids in the cell-culture medium. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of methylated TDA, cholic acid and its various analogs, and sphinganine being detected in this Pseudovibrio strain. The data generated may help to better understand the biochemical processes and metabolism of bacterial strains towards discovery of antimicrobial agents from marine sources.

“…It was previously found as the product of Pseudovibrio sp. W64 marine sponge-derived bacterium [32], and it showed biological activities including antiseptic, anti-inflammatory [33] and antimicrobial activity [34]. Oleamide (amide of oleic acid, entry 5, Tables 1 and 2) was the most abundant compound in F3 of FdEc and F4 of FdEa.…”

“…LC-MS characterization was carried out on a Q-Tof Premier mass spectrometer (Waters Corporation, Milford, MA, USA) coupled to an Alliance 2695 HPLC system (Waters Corporation, Milford, MA, USA) as described previously [ 59 , 60 ]. Accurate mass measurements of the analytes were achieved through the use of an internal reference compound (leucine-enkephalin).…”
