High-power tunable single- and multi-wavelength diode-pumped Nd:YAP laser in the ^4F_3/2 → ^4I_11/2 transition

Abstract: We experimentally explore the fluorescent spectrum of the Nd:YAP crystal to manifest the feasibility of tunable single- and multi-wavelength operations in the (4)F3/2 → (4)I11/2 transition. An intracavity etalon is subsequently exploited to effectively select spectral lines at 1073, 1080, and 1084 nm with the tunabilities of 0.56, 1.13, and 0.1 nm, respectively. We also experimentally obtain multi-wavelength oscillations among various intermanifold lines in the Nd:YAP crystal with the output powers on the orde… Show more

“…During the early days of lasers, the research of Nd:YAP mainly focused on the generation of single wavelength lasers [19][20][21][22][23]. Recently, dual-wavelength Nd:YAP lasers have attracted the attention of researchers [10,13,[24][25][26][27]. Usually an angle-tuned etalon is used to generate dual-wavelength lasers at wavelengths such as 1073 and 1080 nm [25], 1341 and 1339 nm [13] and 1079 and 1099 nm [27].…”

As Nd:YAP is a biaxial material with different emission spectra along different directions of crystallographic axes [23,28,29], it's advantageous to generate an orthogonally polarized dual-wavelength output.…”

“…To date, several Nd 3+ -doped disordered crystals, such as Nd:SBN, 10 Nd, La:SrF 2 (ref. 11) and Nd:YAP, 12 have been realized for tunable laser operations. In addition, the Nd:SrLaAlO 4 (Nd:SLA) crystal, rst grown by the M. Berkowski group, is also a promising disordered crystal with a tetragonal K 2 NiF 4 structure.…”
