High‐speed distributed acquisition network for fast transient measurement

Abstract: In power substations, switching operations of circuit breakers and disconnect switches generate transient electromagnetic emissions, which may interfere with the normal operations of electronic equipments. This study introduces the design of a novel wireless transient measurement system for measuring or monitoring transient electromagnetic emissions in power substations. Unlike traditional transient measurement systems that use several standalone waveform recording equipment, the presented system, adopting nov… Show more

“…Such a system is usable only in substations and has a limited frequency spectrum. In [ 20 ], a developed transient recorder system is described, which uses fast wireless data transmission through wireless links to an internet node. It is suggested that multiple such measurement acquisition systems be installed in substations, time-synchronized via Global Positioning System (GPS), and transmit recorded events that can be correlated with other information at the receiving end.…”

“…This applies even to commercially available transient recorders [ 24 , 25 , 26 ]. An exception is the concept proposed in [ 20 ], suggesting the use of a sensor network with wireless data transmission and time synchronization of data recorded at different locations through the GPS system. An example from [ 27 ] illustrates problems that can occur in complicated grids, which may result in the necessity of installing a large number of transient recorders.…”

“…These disturbances affect the normal operation of electronic products and the electromagnetic environment in coal mines. In recent years, there have been several studies conducted on switching operation transient electric field in power substations [13]. The researchers who conducted these studies analysed the problem of electromagnetic interference and its suppression of EMC testing systems [4].…”
