High Speed Inter-Satellite Communication System by Incorporating Hybrid Polarization-Wavelength Division Multiplexing Scheme

Abstract: Inter-Satellite communication is one of remarkable technologies that can be used to communicate between satellites. This work is focused to carry out the investigations of polarization scheme by incorporating dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) scheme in inter-satellite communication system. A 20×6 Gbps data are transported over inter-satellite optical link having span of 5,000 km to realize the total data transmission of 120 Gbps. Moreover, results are also reported with the effect of RZ and NRZ mod… Show more

“…As Figure 1 shows, some reflected light will be mixed within the received light. We could consider separate the mixed light beams by polarization splitting [11,12]. However, in practice, polarizing splitter cannot separate the two light completely.…”

“…When faced with the requirements of low-orbit satellite networking, space optical communication terminals must be developed towards high communication rates and miniaturization [ 3 ]. In recent years, a kind of Is-OWC communication terminal without independent beacon light has appeared [ 4 , 5 , 6 ]. In such terminals, the ATP system splits part of the light beam from the signal beam as the beacon light to detect the angle of the incidence light.…”

“…The results show that by using Manchester coding, the performance of the system is improved due to self synchronization of transmitted bits. In 2016, Chaudhary et al reported the investigation and demonstration of hybrid polarization division multiplexing (PDM)‐WDM architecture in an IsOWC link 6 . The proposed work compares performance of non return‐to‐zero (NRZ) and return‐to‐zero (RZ) modulation schemes.…”
