High speed partial Stokes imaging using a ferroelectric liquid crystal modulator

Abstract: This paper describes the implementation of an imaging polarimeter using a single ferroelectric liquid crystal light modulator. It provides partial imaging Stokes information at 234 Hz, much faster than polarimeters using nematic light modulators. This information is obtained for dynamic scenes in reflection or transmission. Partial Stokes information contains the first three Stokes parameters. With this information, imaging of the linear degree of polarization and of the angle of polarization can be obtained a… Show more

“…The imaging polarimeter is a device that can obtain four different linear polarization images simultaneously (linear-Stokes polarimeter) or three linear polarization images and one circular polarization image (full-Stokes polarimeter) with optimal designed structures. 91 The polarimeters are usually based on different technological aspects, such as division of time, [92][93][94][95] division of amplitude, 96 division of aperture, 60,97 division of focal plane, [98][99][100] and Fourier-based. [101][102][103][104] The imaging polarimeter has been thoroughly reviewed in Ref.…”

“…The optical setup consists of a polarization states generator and a polarization states analyzer both being identical and using two ferroelectric liquid crystals. Jaulin and Bigue [28] suggest to employ a single non-bistable ferroelectric liquid crystal light modulator for dynamic imaging first three Stokes parameters at high speed.…”
